How many titles are displayed during the opening sequences to the film?

There are five titles displayed during the opening sequences: Sony Pictures Animation, Columbia, Marvel, and Pascal Pictures, and the names of the producers: Avi Arad and Lord Miller.

What images are prioritized in the opening sequence?

In the opening, there are lot of distorted and "trippy" images. Many of the images have a chromatic aberration, which gives the images a neon distortion. There are pictures of spiders and many shots of Peter Parker or Spider-Man in action and the number 42 quickly appears and jumps out to the audience. Also, the audience is introduced to Miles's life at home and at school and his interest in graffiti as he draws it in his books and sticks it on windows and street signs.

What connotations do the images carry?

The images carry a positive and exciting connotation. They make the audience feel ready for the action and adventure that is about to take place. As Spider-Man tells his story about saving the world and fighting monsters, he mentions that there's only one Spider-Man which is something that changes throughout the film when Miles is introduced. The chromatic aberration of these images changes the view of the audience as they can form different interpretations of what they see.

How is genre reinforced through symbolic and technical codes from the outset?

The action/adventure genre is reinforced through symbolism and codes. The radioactive spider and spider webs are shown to reveal the startup of Spider Man and how he got his powers. Also, the action is reinforced through the symbolism of the number 42. Miles, the main character, is connected to it when the audience sees him being picked for the lottery and when the radioactive spider bit him. Also, through Peter Parker's and Miles's crazy jumps and mysteries in the opening scenes, the action genre is reinforced.

How does the film establish an enigma from the outset?

Many enigmas are established in the opening scenes of the movie. As Peter Parker says that he's the only Spider-Man, it leaves a puzzling question to the reader of what actually happened to him and why we are introduced to Miles right after. Also, the number 42 is introduced in the beginning, which leaves the audience to question the significance of so.

What strategies are used to ensure the film appeals to its target audience?

The strategies used are seen through the chromatic design and different angle shots that occur. The audience is introduced to the story of Peter Parker and why the story switches after he mentioned that he's the only Spider-Man. The movie also develops an animated theme to reveal the different lives of the characters and how they're all connected. Also, as Peter Parker tells his story, the different action shots through the cities convey the sense of action to target the audience.

How has technology been used effectively? You might want to consider camera angles, transitions and editing techniques.

The CGI animation for the movie is combined with paintings and comic book techniques to make it look like it was created by hand and in 2D. The movie also uses chromatic aberrations to give the images a neon distortion and a comic book character design. Different shots are used throughout the movie. The high and low angle shots contrast to show the jumps of Spider-Man into the streets. The follow shots reveal the location and the surroundings of the characters in the scenes. Eye level shots are also used to reveal the expressions of the characters. For example, when Miles felt embarrassed, the camera would freeze on his face at an eye level to reveal his expression and emotions.
